Abstract:China's pulp and paper industry has undergone a remarkable transformation, evolving into a global leader in production and consumption since 2009. This paper provides a comprehensive analysis of the industry's current status, historical evolution, and future development trends based on industry data and policy reviews. It examines key characteristics, including phased growth patterns, shifting product portfolios, high regional concentration, and a raw material structure heavily reliant on imports. The analysis further explores the industry's progress in technological innovation, equipment modernization, and product diversification, highlighting the critical link between R&D investment and technological breakthroughs. Looking forward, the industry is entering a phase of high-quality development, driven by several key trends: the diversification of fiber sources, particularly the resurgence of non-wood materials like bamboo; the intelligent and digital transformation of machinery; the development of high-grade and functional products; and a critical push towards green and low-carbon transformation. This paper concludes that navigating raw material supply security and embracing sustainable innovation are pivotal for the future competitiveness of China's pulp and paper sector.
